What Is The Grand Massif Ski Area

The Grand Massif ski area is one of the largest linked skis areas in France and is made up of the following 5 ski resorts: Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoëns and Sixt Fer à Cheval.

The combination of these 5 ski resorts provides a vast and varied terrain for both skiers and snowboarders of all levels and abilities to enjoy. All 5 resorts that make up the Grand Massif in France have their own unique charm and character, with each one offering its own different style in terms of beauty.

 

Where Is The Grand Massif

The Grand Massif ski area is in the Haute Savoie region of France and is ideally located between Geneva and Mont Blanc. Its close proximity to Geneva Airport makes the Grand Massif one of the closest and most accessible ski areas from Geneva airport itself.

 

How Big Is The Grand Massif Ski Area

The Grand Massif ski domain consists of 144 pistes which amounts to a total of 265klms groomed and marked pistes throughout all 5 ski resorts. One of the major advantages of the Grand Masssif Ski area is that it is very easy to get around and it is relatively easy to reach all 5 resorts quickly. The lift systems that are in place throughout the Grand Massif are very efficient and each resort is just a couple of lifts and runs away from each other.

 

Grand Massif Ski Pass

As with any other ski resort, you will be required to have a valid lift pass if you wish to use the ski lifts in the Grand Massif. There are several different types of ski passes available for the Grand Massif and which one you choose will obviously be determined by your own needs, circumstances and budget.

 

Longest Ski Run In The Grand Massif

The Grand Massif Ski area has one of the longest ski runs (The Cascade) in Europe which is 14 klms long. The Cascade ski run in the Grand Massif starts at the top of the ‘Les Grandes Platieres lift in Flaine and then runs all the way down to the ski resort of Sixt. The Cascade Ski run is a lovely Blue run so it can be enjoyed by most abilities of skiers and snowboarders.

Please Note: once you reach the bottom of the Cascade you will need to catch the ski bus from Sixt to Samoens as there is no connecting lift
