Types Of Airport ParkingIn This Guide:

What Are The Different Types Of Airport Parking:

There are many different types of airport parking and each one will vary in price. Obviously, the basic standard parking is the cheapest option. However, if you require additional extras or luxuries, then this will be reflected in the price. Below are a few examples of the different types of airport parking and why they affect the price.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Airport Parking:

Both Drop-Off and Pick-Up parking are the shortest types of parking in terms of duration. Most Drop-Off and Pick-Up parking facilities at the airport allow you to drop off and pick up passengers. However, the length of time you can park, does vary, depending on which airport you are visiting. Some airports only allow you 10 minutes to drop-off and pick-up passengers, whilst others allow 30-60 minutes.  This type of parking is usually charged per minute or a set fee for a short space of time. As a result, it is also renowned for being one of the most expensive types of parking.

Tip and Things To Consider:

Although drop-off and pick-up parking outside the airport terminal is generally costly, some airports do offer free drop-off and pick-up parking facilities too. These are generally located further from the airport terminals. As a result, they often require a short walk or free bus transfer. Due to this, it is always best to check with the airport before travelling. This will allow you to see if they do have a free drop-off and pick-up facility available.

DO NOT PARK ON DOUBLE RED LINES:

One thing you should NEVER do around an airport is park on the double red lines! Doing so, will result in you being fined. People think they are avoiding paying the drop-off and pick-up parking charges by stopping on the red lines outside the airport. However, what they do not realise is that if you stop on them for longer than 10 seconds, you will be issued a £100 fine. As a result, trying to save a few pounds in parking charges, will only end up you paying much more!

Short Stay Airport Parking:

The ‘Short Stay’ car parks are generally designed for shorter stays of just a few hours. They are commonly used for picking up and dropping off passengers at the airport, where a little more time may be required. As a result, the short-stay car parks are often located very close to the airport terminals. These short stay car parks at the airport, allow drivers to park their vehicles and walk to the terminal building. This is ideal when you need to accompany passengers to the terminal building or need to greet them in the arrivals lobby. The short stay parking facilities are generally more expensive, especially if you stay for over an hour.

Long Stay Airport Parking:

Long-Stay airport parking is one of the most popular types of parking with passengers. This type of parking allows passengers to leave their vehicle at the airport for a much longer duration. As a result, the daily rate for long-stay parking usually works out much cheaper than that of the short-stay parking. Long-stay parking can be either ‘on-site’ within the airport grounds or located a little further from the airport itself ‘off-site’ Obviously On-site parking is the most convenient and is generally a little more expensive. Off-site parking tends to be cheaper and generally requires shuttle bus transfer to and from the airport. This is usually free and included in the price of your booking.

Meet & Greet Airport Parking:

If you would like a little more convenience and luxury, then Meet & Greet parking may be worth considering. Generally considered to be a ‘Premium’ package, Meet & Greet parking offers a concierge style of parking to customers. Meet & Greet airport parking is a very simple process and one where you just drive your car to a designated drop off location. This drop off point is usually very close to the airport terminal itself. When you arrive at the airport drop off point, you simply hand over your car keys to a member of staff at the Meet & Greet. From there, they will drive your car and park it in a secure car park. You are then free to make your way to the airport terminal at your leisure. Upon your return, you simply make your way back to the designated pick-up point and your car will be waiting for you. As previously mentioned, this is one of the most convenient types of airport parking but also one of the most expensive.

Tip:

Although it is often classed as one of the most expensive types of airport parking, there are often many great offers to be found! Due to this fact, it is always a good idea to see what offers are available at the time of booking. As a result, you may be able to secure a better option for not much more money!
